Attach Needle
- Attach needle with a firm twisting motion
- Move needle protector away from needle
- Carefully remove needle cover without damaging the needle

Prepare Puncture Site
- Locate strongest pulse palpation
- Perform Allen’s Test
- Clean puncture site according to facility regulations

Perform Puncture
- Orient the needle so that the bevel is facing upstream
- Puncture artery at a 90 degree angle
- Allow capillary to fill to a sufficient volume
- Remove needle and apply pressure to the puncture site

Secure Needle Protector
- Position needle protector at a 45 degree angle to the needle
- Firmly press the needle protector against a firm surface
- An audible click will verify that the needle has fully engaged into the protector
- Position needle protector at a 45 degree angle to the needle
