Attach Needle

• Attach needle with a firm twisting motion
• Move needle protector away from needle
• Carefully remove needle cover without damaging the needle

Prepare Puncture Site

• Locate strongest pulse palpation
• Perform Allen’s Test
• Clean puncture site according to facility regulations

Perform Puncture

• Orient the needle so that the bevel is facing upstream
• Puncture artery at a 90 degree angle
• Allow capillary to fill to a sufficient volume
• Remove needle and apply pressure to the puncture site

Secure Needle Protector

• Position needle protector at a 45 degree angle to the needle
• Firmly press the needle protector against a firm surface
• An audible click will verify that the needle has fully engaged into the protector
• Position needle protector at a 45 degree angle to the needle

• An audible click will verify that the needle has fully engaged into the protector
